Dr Keith Souter was born in St Andrews and studied medicine at the University of Dundee in Scotland. He is a retired GP, medical writer and novelist. Married with three grown-up children and six grandchildren he lives in Stratford-upon-Avon, having left his beloved Yorkshire where he lived and worked for forty years within arrow-shot of Sandal Castle, the inspiration and setting for his Sandal Castle Medieval Thriller series. He has published fourteen medical books, some of which have been translated into over a dozen languages, and many novels in several genres. He has written a weekly newspaper column, The Doctor’s Casebook for over forty years. He is a member of the Crime Writers Association, the Society of Authors, the Medical Journalist’s Association, International Thriller Writers, Western Writers of America, and Western Fictioneers, of which he is a past vice-president.
He also enjoys the challenge of micro-fiction and has won short fiction prizes, including the 2006 Fish One-Page Historical Prize. Apart from writing, he enjoys reading, theatre, cinema, long distance walking and running at carthorse speed.
