My book is out! My book is out!
Now what?
Well, a book launch party of course.
Luckily a wonderful indie bookstore called Inkwood Books opened down the street from me in Haddonfield, NJ. Upon entering you are greeted to the creak of hundred year old floorboards and the intoxicating scent of books emanating from the walls of shelves. I spoke with the charming owner Julie Beddington and she agreed to host my launch in her beautiful store. You can learn more about Inkwood Books here: https://www.facebook.com/inkwoodnj
With the venue in place, I needed to plan the party. Food, drinks, bookmarks, flowers (sunflowers of course), a banner, giveaways, prizes…lots to do!
My family room has transformed into a sunflower’s storage space.
Suzie Ryan, my very talented friend and fellow writer, is baking sunflower themed cookies and cupcakes—she’s a whiz with a pastry bag!
So now it’s time to advertise.
I’ve posted event party links on Facebook, told friends and family, invited local librarians, and sent out press releases to all the local newspapers and some television shows (doesn’t hurt to try.)
Luckily for me the idyllic, historical town of Haddonfield holds a huge craft festival the weekend of my book launch. It’s estimated that over 100,000 people visit the festival each year and Inkwood Books is located right in the heart of the festivities.
I hope to sell a lot of books but even if I don’t reading a review like the one below makes all the hard work worthwhile.
“What a heartwarming story! I read the book to my girls and we loved it. Lilla’s Sunflowers struck a special chord in our hearts, because I just returned from my own military deployment far from home.”
Those kinds of good feelings are what I feel all authors are hoping our books will inspire.
Now I just need to take a deep breath and get ready to have fun!
“Isabel opened the doors that led to my work being published. Throughout, she has offered honest opinions and patient coaching – all without ever losing the courtesy, gentility and decency that makes her a pleasure to know. I owe her deeply!”
